Hey guys!
Recently I took part in a book swap with Lucy (the lovely lady behind Lucy May Reads) where we exchanged two books each. We’d been planning on doing this for months and finally got around to it!
The only rules we set were that the choices would be a surprise but we could make a request. I said I was after something witchy and something new to surprise me.
Here’s what I got from Lucy:
A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness

Blurb: A world of witches, daemons and vampires. A manuscript which holds the secrets of their past and the key to their future. Diana and Matthew – the forbidden love at the heart of it.
This definitely fulfilled my ‘witchy’ request! I loved the sound of the TV show when it came out but never got around to watching it but have high hopes for this one! Lucy said that she was also intrigued by the trailer for the show and wanted to give it a read before she watched it – plus she felt it fit my ‘witchy’ vibe perfectly!
The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons

Blurb: Leningrad 1941: the white nights of summer illuminate a city of fallen grandeur whose palaces and avenues speak of a different age, when Leningrad was known as St Petersburg. Two sisters, Tatiana and Dasha, share the same bed, living in one room with their brother and parents. The routine of their hard, impoverished life is shattered on 22 June 1941 when Hitler invades Russia. For the Metanov family, for Leningrad and particularly for Tatiana, life will never be the same again. On that fateful day, Tatiana meets a brash young man named Alexander. The family suffers as Hitler’s army advances on Leningrad, and the Russian winter closes in. With bombs falling and the city under siege, Tatiana and Alexander are drawn inexorably to each other, but theirs is a love that could tear Tatiana’s family apart, and at its heart lies a secret that could mean death to anyone who hears it. Confronted on the one hand by Hitler’s vast war machine, and on the other by a Soviet system determined to crush the human spirit, Tatiana and Alexander are pitted against the very tide of history, at a turning point in the century that made the modern world.
This book was the big surprise! I am a lover of historical fiction and romance so am actually really excited to read this. Lucy said that at first, it didn’t seem like her cup of tea but after being forced into reading it, she was actually pleasantly surprised! She also recommended the next two books that come after this one and said that I’d need my tissues handy 😂
What books would you want in a book swap? And what would you send in return?
Have you read either of these books? What did you think? Have you ever done a book swap? How did it go? I’d love to know!
You can always find me over on Instagram and Twitter if you’d like to discuss these books (or any others that I’ve featured) in more detail 😌

I love the idea of a book swap! I may have to read A Discovery of Witches, seems like my type of book! 🙂
