Hey guys! Welcome back to another day of Blogmas 2018 and today I thought I’d tell you some of the traditions that my family and I have around Christmas time!
We all have our traditions for the holidays, ranging from special foods or events, and today I thought I’d tell you about my favourites! I’d love to know what things you do every year too!
We often go and visit my nan on Christmas Eve because she likes to see us open our presents. We take over some lunch and sit around chatting and giving gifts. My brother comes up as well which is lovely having everyone together!
Christmas Eve gifts!
Ever since I can remember, my parents let me open one present on Christmas Eve and it’s always a new pair of pjs! This all comes from my mom telling me and my older brother that ‘Santa doesn’t come to dirty children’, meaning we had to make sure we’d cleaned our rooms, had a bath and a hair wash and were all tucked up in bed squeaky clean We still do this today and this year I got the comfiest pair of Christmassy pjs that are so soft
Back when I still believed in Santa, one of my parents would sneak into my room at night with a stocking to leave on my bed. I’d wake up so excited that I’d run into their room shouting, ‘HE’S BEEN!’. They’d come into my room with me to watch me open the presents – one of my favourite memories was my mom trying to break open a Terry’s chocolate orange by hitting it on her head, unsurprisingly it didn’t work Even at 21, my mom still does this and I look forward to it every year.
Ever since I was born, my mom has been in charge of cooking the family Christmas dinner and she always makes her chicken liver paté. I used to hate the idea of it but it’s grown on me and now it’s the food that I associate with the Christmas holidays!
On Christmas morning, my parents and I always sit around on the floor opening our presents. We try to make it last as long as possible and I always love watching them open what I’ve wrapped for them.
Christmassy Phone Calls!
On Christmas morning, after opening our presents, we always get phone calls from my nan (who celebrates Christmas with my uncle at home) and my older brother (who moved to the other end of the country this past year) to thank each other for the presents and wish each other a Merry Christmas. I always love this as everyone’s in such a happy mood!
Every year, the Frankfurt Christmas Market comes to Birmingham and I always make an effort to go, usually multiple times. My mom and I go while Christmas shopping and then I meet up with friends to go as well. It has such a wonderfully festive atmosphere and some gorgeous items for sale. You can check out a tour of it here!
Hope you enjoyed getting to know my Christmas traditions! I’d love to hear about yours! Are we the same?
Thank you for checking out my Blogmas 2018 posts and I can’t wait to share the rest with you! Check back tomorrow for more festive fun
I’d also just like to point out that I don’t want to cause any offence to those who don’t celebrate Christmas, these posts are just a bit of fun to go along with my own personal celebrations.
