Blogmas Day 17 – Tour of a Christmas Market!

Hey guys! Welcome back to another day of Blogmas 2018! Today we have a tour of my local Christmas market! This event is such a favourite of mine and I wanted to share a little bit of it with you ๐Ÿ˜Š

You might already know that I’m from Birmingham in the UK, and we are lucky enough to have a German Christmas market every year from November to December. I’ve been going to this market for about ten-ish years and although they always have the same stalls, the atmosphere is not to be missed!ย ๐ŸŽ„๐Ÿ“š

The Frankfurt Christmas Market comes to Birmingham every year (since 1997) and it a huge series of wooden huts full of festive surprises. There are twinkling lights and decorations and a few huge trees, giving the whole parade a really Christmassy and fun atmosphere.

There are stalls for all kinds of goodies. You can pick up some beautiful Christmas presents for your loved ones, chill out with some tasty food and drink or go a bit more adventurous and go ice skating! There really is something for everyone to enjoy, especially with it being open until 9pm daily (including Sundays).

Starting off with arguably the most important aspect of this Christmas market – the food. This is what most people return for year after year, lining up in the cold to get theirย hot chocolate, fruity glรผhwein, huge pints of German beer, foot-long bratwursts, doughnuts, garlic bread – everything you could wish for! It’s a bit of a tradition for us to always pick up some doughnuts, they always look so good! ๐Ÿ˜

There’s Christmassy music playing from hidden speakers and animated animals that blow bubbles at the crowd, making this experience something to truly enjoy.

There are also many bars along the route serving alcohol, hot chocolate and soft drinks. They’re always decorated so beautifully and have a lot of surrounding tables for people to chill out with their friends or family, sipping on their favourite beverage.

This time I also managed to pick up some tiny pancakes (poffertjes) which they cover in a variety of toppings – I went for butter, cinnamon and sugar ๐Ÿ˜ Such a good food choice at this market and was just enough sweetness to finish off my dinner time!

Another favourite sweet food from the market are the marshmallows! They’re a soft waffle style biscuit covered in thick marshmallow and dipped in flavoured chocolate. There are so many flavours to choose from that it’s always so difficult to make a decision!

A lot of the stalls sell gift or craft items, lovingly made for you. You can purchase a whole host of things from this market – from gemstones and dreamcatchers to wooden toys and tablecloths, having a browse is such a wonderful way to spend a Christmassy afternoon.

A few of my favourite stalls are the ones that sell the more whimsical items. I love seeing all of the wooden toys (especially the Russian nesting dolls ๐Ÿ˜) and little bits and pieces that would be really lovely stocking fillers!

My absolute favourite stalls are the ones that sell gemstones and candles. Something about them just makes me feel so cosy!

These salt lamps are just so gorgeous and Christmassy! I was lucky enough to receive a salt lamp for Christmas last year and absolutely love it. They cast such a warm glow and are said to help reduce anxiety. I’d love to add to it one day and have them dotted around my home – they just make me want to curl up and nap! ๐Ÿ˜‚

The candle stalls are also so lovely to stop and look at. They have all kinds of scented candles, glass holders and incense which all make for a wonderful smell!ย

I’ve bought a few of the gorgeous glass candle holders for friends in the past, giving them as gifts for Christmas with a scented candle inside to burn. I always think that candles (and books of course) make the best presents!

We’ll end with one of the more decorated bars that are positioned every few stalls of the market. There are always people milling around these parts with their food and drink, chatting to friends and family and generally getting into the Christmas spirit! This is such a festive and enjoyable atmosphere to be a part of and I’d definitely recommend visiting a Christmas market if there’s one near you! ๐ŸŽ„

Have you been to this Christmas market? Or maybe you have one near you? I’d love to know!

Thank you for checking out my Blogmas 2018 posts and I canโ€™t wait to share the rest with you! Check back tomorrow for more festive fun ๐ŸŽ…๐Ÿป

Iโ€™d also just like to point out that I donโ€™t want to cause any offence to those who donโ€™t celebrate Christmas, these posts are just a bit of fun to go along with my own personal celebrations.

You can always find me over on Instagram and Twitter if you fancy a book (or Christmas) chat! ๐Ÿ˜Œ๐ŸŽ„

  1. Wow that looks and sounds amazing! This year, the only market I went to is Winchester Christmas Market as itโ€™s nearby! Although very busy, it was really lovely and got me feeling festive! Your market is definitely going on the list for next year!
