Hello everyone! Welcome to another day of Blogmas 2018! Our tree went up today, all of my presents are wrapped and I’m excitedly counting down the next twelve days 😍 Some more festive bookish content for you today with a list of my personal favourite Christmas books!
Some people like to stick to their favourite genres, but some people like to switch it up a bit and read things that fit with the seasons. I love reading horror in autumn and am also a fan of picking up some Christmassy books in the winter. If you’re anything like me, here are a few suggestions of some reads to get you through the festive season! 🎄📚
- Father Christmas by Raymond Briggs
- A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens
- Are You There, Father Christmas? by Deborah Moss
- The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden
- The Nightmare Before Christmas by Tim Burton
- How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr Seuss
- The Night Before Christmas by Clement C. Moore
- The Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg
- The Golden Compass by Phillip Pullman
- The Elves and The Shoemaker by Paul Galdone
My number one choice has to be Father Christmas by Raymond Briggs.
This story is such a classic and a special one for me as it was read to me every year when I was young. I always felt that this was a really lovely take on Santa’s job at Christmas as it’s told in his point of view. We get to see a more human side to this magical figure which always made me even more excited for Christmas day!
A lot of the books on this list are classic choices that I’m sure a lot of you have heard of, if not read. You can check out my reviews for A Christmas Carol and The Bear and the Nightingale if you need some convincing to read them.
The only book on this list that you might not have heard of is Are You There, Father Christmas? by Deborah Moss. I absolutely loved this book as a kid and it made me (and my parents) cry laugh! It’s a book of emails to Santa full of hilarious questions and requests for gifts. Definitely not an ad (I wish) but you can pick it up on Amazon really cheap for a fun little stocking filler!
Have you read any of these books? What did you think? Are they recommendations that you’ll be adding to your TBR list? I’d love to know!
Thank you for checking out my Blogmas 2018 posts and I can’t wait to share the rest with you! Check back tomorrow for more festive fun 🎅🏻
I’d also just like to point out that I don’t want to cause any offence to those who don’t celebrate Christmas, these posts are just a bit of fun to go along with my own personal celebrations.
